A UN mission created by Resolution 1244 in June 1999 to administer Kosovo on an interim basis and to build institutions of self-government. It issued regulations with the force of law, including the one that created the Kosovo Protection Corps. After Kosovo's constitution was adopted in 2008, its role was significantly reduced.
