On 24 June 1998 US Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke, touring western Kosovo, met and was photographed with uniformed UÇK members — in Junik, according to BIRN.
The State Department played the encounter down as unplanned and “not a political decision” [1]. The place (Junik) and the participants' names come from a single BIRN feature and carry medium confidence [2].

1998
The attacks in Drenica in February and March 1998 turned a limited insurgency into open war. By October, hundreds of thousands of people had been displaced and international diplomacy was directly engaged.
