On 23 December 1989 a group of Albanian writers and intellectuals founded the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and elected Ibrahim Rugova as its chairman.
The date rests on Rugova's sworn testimony before the ICTY and on Kosovo press reports; encyclopedic sources give only “December 1989” [1] [2].
Historical context
1989–1995
After autonomy was abolished, Kosovo Albanians built parallel institutions and chose peaceful resistance. The strategy kept society alive, but it could not change Kosovo's international position.
